Emaischen

Emaischen is the Easter Monday market in Nospelt, a village with a long tradition of pottery, and these photographs are from the 2026 edition, on the 6th of April. The stars of the day are the Péckvillercher, little clay bird whistles, set out in rows on the stalls and turned over in the hands of the people buying them. I photographed the volunteers in their green caps and grey jackets, the tables and the little flags, and a girl in a flowered coat working out which whistle to take home. It’s a small, local and cheerful tradition.
